Sometime ago I stopped going out in the evenings in Manila due to the nightly assaults by hold-uppers and pickpockets on foreigners. But last night I ventured out to meet friends for a drink, around 9pm I started the ride home and I was halfway into a taxi when 6 teen vandals descended on my taxi, one was in front blocking forward movement, two were holding the door open and two more were trying to trouser me. I kicked, punched, slapped until I managed to close the door and lock it. Similar incidents have happened to me dozens of times before, how much longer can we foreigners tolerate this behavior before retaliatory actions start to take place? This by the way, was the second taxi I entered, the first, I disembarked from because the driver refused to put on the meter, he said its raining
