Sometimes I will run into a person who tells me this long story about having a Malinois years ago and just hated it. The dog was wild, crazy, destructive and ....... In most cases I can point to an owner who was a lazy couch potato, didnt understand these dogs and never trained the dog to do anything. Dogs arent bad because they are bad. They are bad sometimes because somebody made them bad as in hyper, destructive ....... After telling me such a story they then ask about buying a puppy from us. Well, unless I am convinced otherwise you cant have one of my puppies. They deserve a better home and when I say better I mainly mean somebody who isnt a couch potato and somebody who knows how to train or is smart enough to seek QUALIFIED help. If I agree to sell them a puppy it never fails that theyll say pick me a maligator. This would be impossible since that breed does not exist. It is a pet peeve of mine that I hate calling my breed something like this. They are incredible dogs and deserve to be addressed correctly. This would be like a neurosurgeon a witch doctor.... to his face. Okay, back to the maligator thing. This person has already tried a Belgian Malinois once and hated it so now they want me to send them the most hyper dog in the litter? Really? If you are not a very experienced handler and want to dedicate a lot of time to this dog you dont need a high drive dog. You need a dog that can be trained but not one that is off the chain crazy. The best bet if you are not 100% familiar with this breed is to begin slowly with a good, solid dog and then later you might consider adding another one. But, Im still not sure why anyone would want a high drive dog unless it is for police work.
