Sometimes We Get in our Own I saw Donnie today, one of the best - TopicsExpress

Sometimes We Get in our Own I saw Donnie today, one of the best or possible greatest soul singers waking the streets with his head down right here in Atlanta. For some of you who don’t know Donnie, he made this empowering: deeply moving, gospel street-tingled with crazy jazz rhythms and at its core profoundly idealistic brilliant album called The Colored Section (2003). I could barely recognize him like a prisoner whom had lost his faith in the future, a captive all these years in the spoils of war. With his loss of belief in the future, I talked to him about music, life, people, our gifts, and staying uplifted. I could feel his lost of spiritual hold; decline and became subject to mental and physical decay. Usually this happened quite suddenly, in the form of a crisis, the symptoms of which were familiar to the experienced from war. We all feared this moment — not for ourselves, which would have been pointless, but for our friends. Naturally only a few people were capable of reaching great spiritual heights. But a few were given the chance to attain human greatness even through their apparent worldly failure and death, an accomplishment, which in ordinary circumstances they would have never achieved. One could make a victory of those experiences, turning life into an inner triumph, or one could ignore the challenge and simply vegetate, as did a majority of the prisoners. Some people aren’t meant to be of this world or system we call America. Some people aren’t meant to work a 40 hours a week job. Some people cannot fit into a box or pretend to fake a script that wasn’t written by them. We can pass judgments, forget about our fallen prisoners or walk past them like they never existed. We expect our love ones to be what we want them to be, however am I more insane to cast my beliefs, morals or ideas on someone else. Donnie is a spirit that is always shining bright, that will not be of this world. I could wish that Donnie drops new music or I could just relish, and except the fact I got a chance to experience a great moment in time. Thank you, Donnie for that moment on wax & I only wish you peace and happiness. Sometimes we do get in our own way and sometimes the world isn’t just big enough to understand our way.
