Sometimes a dive turns out just perfect, and that was the case today at Merimbula Wharf when Mick Parnell and I entered the water to give Mick some more experience. The visability was 15 metres and clear as a fish tank, water temperature was 18 and the wildlife came out to greet us in spades. The first dive involved the usual jaunt to the sponge garden, where we had the privilege of a cuttlefish display from a single large cuttle, then a pair of red cuttlefish playing together, there are to many pics for this page but these are some of the best ones with Mick in the background. After having such a wonderful experience we headed back to the exit via the pipeline, this dive was one of the best Ive had at Merimbula if its a sign of things to come this year,,,bring it on ! After 1 hour surface interval we took off way south into the badlands of deeper water, always a bit of an adventure and navigation exercise in the sand, eventually we found the reefs in 18 meters and the first thing I noticed was a strange aluminium cylinder in the sand, investigating further I turned it over only to find it was some form of ordinance????? Labelled danger do not touch, to late! gingerly I replaced it and as it said report to police, I will be! If any of our readers know what it is let us know ??? not that I could find it again :-) After 20 minutes or so in deeper water we had to navigate back to the exit on the way we saw some magnificent sponges and anemones. Also we spotted a large angry Moray eel out of his hiding hole and feeling threatened, both these dives were awesome and I we were both very happy, the photos are great.
