Sometimes our paths will cross with someone, often in the most random ways, and it will completely open your eyes or touch your heart in that moment. While standing in line at the store, my spot kept getting nudged further and further back due to the chaos that began to unravel. Apparently everyone chose this time to get school and organizational supplies. Then an elderly lady spoke up, Excuse me, Miss! You were behind me! By now I couldve easily been pushed 3-4 people behind her. She was right though. Originally I WAS behind her. However, I hate confrontation though and will avoid it at all costs, typically. So, I kept letting others weasel their way in front of me. After she said this the lady behind her gestured for me to go in front of her begrudgingly. Then the elder woman turned to me and said, Honey, I use to be like you. I used to let people take the best of me. Always backed down and let others win. Never stood up for myself! That is, until I had cancer and went through chemo. I learned to stand up for myself through treatment, and realized life is too short not to be heard! Take what is yours, stand your ground, and dont let anyone silence your voice or change that. I stood there and smiled and told her she was absolutely right and thanked her. That I needed that. She purchased her items and then turned around, said it was nice meeting me, and said, One last thing..Dont stand your ground too much with your husband though! He needs to feel right at least some of the time. Then smirked and went away. 😂
