Sometimes, seemingly small things can become insurmountable problems for those experiencing the trauma of homelessness and serious illness. HAPs James Tiderington recently met a young woman denied the medical assistance she so desperately needed because she couldnt prove she was no longer employed. Her former employer-- a large supermarket chain-- told her they couldnt help her and the Department of Public Welfare refused to budge without documentation from that employer. Through a combination of advocacy and persistence, James was able to obtain the needed documentation, which he then provided to DPW, who agreed to provide medical assistance to the young woman immediately. Way to go, James, for helping open the door to much needed healthcare for this young woman!
