Sometimes the small victories are the sweetest. A little over two - TopicsExpress

Sometimes the small victories are the sweetest. A little over two weeks ago, I opened the kitchen cabinet and the shelf pin holding up the top shelf broke and rained glasses down on my head. Only two broke but unfortunately they were part of my Noritake wedding crystal from my parents . Then I discovered that the shelf pin was PLASTIC and broke off in the hole. I have spent the last two weeks struggling to get that sucker out periodically. In the meantime, my counter top was covered in glasses and somehow the chaos spread into a mess. I tried everything I could think of to get that stupid piece of plastic out - screwdrivers, corkscrews, pliers - nothing worked and of course it was in an incredibly difficult place to get to requiring a stepladder and flashlight to even see the spot. This morning I got inspired, grabbed my drill and went up the ladder. Drilled a hole at the edge of the plastic, grabbed the pliers and that thing popped right out. I replaced the pin with a METAL pin - longterm project will be to replace all with metal pens. Then I put the shelf back in place, put the glasses away and cleaned up the kitchen counters. I can see my countertop for the first time in weeks. A big thank you to my friend, Jennifer Tomlinson who spent time with me right after I moved two years helping me buy tools and relearn how to use them. Who needs a man around anyway?
