Sometimes things get weird. Nothing I would post here, except that it affects art and updates to this page and now orders for prints that I had to delay. I wanted to have some public record of the craziness for fun and FYI. Lots of folks were looking forward to seeing the progress and even asked to help with construction. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the warehouse. My home and studio warehouse are being sold to a higher bidder by someone who said, but not in my legal rent contract, that I could buy the building. (I should have known) Property value is all time high in areas with renovation closing in and Austins growing too fast now. Lots of folks are being pushed out for good. Been in this warehouse building for about two years and have built from scratch, a fully working bathroom with sink and shower. Had to jackhammer the foundation to run drain lines.. Ran and soldered accessible copper piping.. framed it out and walled it in with threshold and door. Built two apartment lofts and many shelves. Months and moths of work. Built an office and drawing area and a oversized industrial, wooden table for storing and sorting scrap metal for sculpture work with a good friend. Now has two tons of scrap collected on top! Going to need a new home for that, also. And then- Months ago lightning hit the building and seemingly destroyed nothing but my production computers, screens, personal computer and backup hard drives through the buildings wiring and surge protectors that were also ruined. All files are ruined. Lots of client logo and print media files. Thousands of dollars of gear is gone with no insurance on any of it. My fault for that. I kept putting it off to save money to put back into the project. The irony! A flood in part of the building has delayed work in part of the building that still works after the lightning. The lightning may have caused the crack that allowed the flood to happen.. Had a backup rental house in progress and to my bewilderment, it has also been rent adjusted to an unaffordable rate due to rocketing rise in property value. Im afraid Austin is eating its own culture away for money. Goodbye warehouse studio project and computers and files. You are just stuff. Its fun to get shook up and for things to fall apart sometimes. Im sure God has an amazing plan in all of this. Could have been lots worse. Been a great learning experience. Puts other things into perspective and perspective is vital in all things art. Will post actual art when I can!
