Somewhere around nineteen or twenty years or so ago, a little black ball of fur came to live with us. She was just a tiny rambunctious and playful kitten. Someone had dumped her on our property. She adopted us and accepted the name Dolly or sometimes Miss Dolly. She was a beautiful and loving Cat. Miss Dolly never roamed very far from her home except to go to the beauty shop or to the Vet for shots. This Monday evening she made her last trip away from home. For a while she had been loosing weight and for the last three days would not eat. Yesterday she was very wobbly and finally laid down and did not have the strength to get up. Our other two cats laid very close by her side as if to give her comfort, something they never did. In all of her years Miss Dolly was a loner to all of our other cats. We believe that Patches and Tom Boy were well aware that Miss Dolly was dying. At the Vet, the difficult decision was made to Let Her Go. Fighting back the tears, we both petted her and told her we loved her, even though she had been deaf for years. Within seconds her little heart ceased to beat, her breathing stopped and she slipped away peacefully. We buried her in our Pet Cemetery out back near our barn under a large cedar tree just as the sun was beginning to set on the last day of her life. As is my custom with all of our cats, I buried her food bowl full of her favorite food and a bunch of her favorite treats with her. She really loved her treats. I really believe that her little soul is now playing and romping with all of our other cats as they did when they were young. At least this thought makes me happy. After we buried Miss Dolly and in the last glow of the evening, I thanked Patches and Tom Boy for being there for her. She was a good cat and we will miss her. The Sun rises and the Sun sets and Life goes steadily on towards eternity.
