Song of the Day: High Time by Grateful Dead. So, I didnt - TopicsExpress

Song of the Day: High Time by Grateful Dead. So, I didnt really know anything about The Dead until I was about 18 years old, on a backpacking trip to Northern Arkansas with some friends Id met at college. They were listening to this spacey music, with these massive moody guitar solos and vocalists that didnt have polished voices like the popular radio that I knew. Over the next few years, Id be re-introduced to the music of Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia in places like Colorado where Deadheads and Phish fans grew like weed. I needed to get to know this music on my own terms, allowed time to digest it, invest in my own way, because I wasnt able to be a Deadhead in the true sense of the word. Nonetheless, I became a so-called Deadhead because they made great music, timeless music and were utterly unique. Furthermore, Jerry Garcias persona, history and musicianship make him nearly impossible not to fall in love with. Anyway, the song...I get most of my listening nowadays on my commute to work on my bike, in my headphones, which really does wonders for connecting to the lyrical content of a song. High Time is all at once a sad song, You told me goodbye, how was I to know you didnt mean goodbye, you meant please dont let me go? and a celebration song, We could have us a high time, living the good life, well I know. I love the mellow mood of this tune, the melancholy, the patience, the loss, the heartache. This is a damn good song. I hope you find the Grateful Dead in your own way too.
