Songs of the South Day 4: So major character work going on today. I feel for some of the actors, I do. Being told to basically be the stereotypical black person. Being an openly gay man I have been told to play the stereotypical gay guy FEELS offensive. But it is what the show calls for. And in todays world it DOES make a statement having to play roles like that in that fashion. But we have strong actors in the show and an amazing director who knows how to get his point across in a diplomatic way.For me the only note I got was to not look at a person at a particular moment. SO I am guessing I am doing it right. Its feeling right that is for sure. It is always interesting to figure out WHY you are saying the lines that you are saying and not just saying because that is what is in the script. I am really focusing on not just why I say what I say but why other characters are saying what they are saying. So far an intriguing show that is very well written to show how ridiculous and offensive thing that people in the world do are say can be..... Words mean more than what is set down on paper. It takes the human voice to infuse them with deeper meaning -Maya Angelou
