Songs of the season... The poetry and folksongs of the British - TopicsExpress

Songs of the season... The poetry and folksongs of the British Isles feature many tales of black birds and ravens and crows--often involving said birds feasting on the corpses of dead soldiers and knights after battles. In British, Irish, and Norse mythology, they are associated with death and war. And these associations with violent death might be why a group of crows is called a murder of crows. This song (by Fern Knight, from the delightfully titled album, Music for Witches & Alchemists) captures these sentiments well. In a Poe-like manner, a simple thing like a murder of crows becomes more and more sinister. _______ Murder of Crows Theres a murder of crows Blackening the skies at night Like dirt filling up with gold Pretty soon my darling Look out The moon The moon The moon Theres a murder of crows Blackening the skies at night Like smoke on the horizon of this little town Pretty soon Theyre gonna Block out the sun The sun The sun Pretty soon theyre gonna Block out the sun The sun The sun Pretty soon theyre gonna Block out the sun The sun The sun Pretty soon theyre gonna Block out the sun The sun The sun youtube/watch?v=HBkyg56gxgI
