Sonic Boom. A flying jet makes noise, this travels through the air as sound waves. When the jet reaches a speed faster than the speed of that sound it creates a sonic boom. Im not quite sure why yet, but i think its to do with the jet penetrating the sound wave. Id also imagine that it would be the same if you were to travel faster than the speed of light, but instead of a sonic boom youd have some sort of light explosion.
