Sonu Nigaam recently recorded a song for Akshay Kumar’s production and refused to charge any money for it. He sang the song for free because in the film, it is a sung by a son for his father. Sonu got emotional on hearing the song titled Pitaah Ka Hai Naam , which appears in Boss . Sonu who shares a very close bond with his father says, “It’s a very emotionally charged song and it’s easy for you to picture yourself and your father on hearing it. It meant more because I am also a father now. I connected with the song deeply and was emotionally moved.” He adds, “I have sung several songs devoted to mothers, but haven’t cried during all of them. He recalls a song he recorded for an Aanand L Rai film, “After the recording, Aanand and I wept for over an hour, like children. I didn’t break down as much for this Boss number, but I was very emotional, despite the fact that we were recording in m own studio, at my pad… I mean it was my space, but the song is so powerful that it moves you. I am extremely sincere to my craft and don’t just sing, but feel the song. With this song it was easy to find that connect.” He continues, “I will definitely make my dad hear it and I can bet everything I have that h will cry on hearing it too. The singer adds that he was initially shocked to come across such a number in a film that is titled Boss , “ think it was very courageous of the makers to have such a number. At a time when all filmmakers want peppy tracks or item numbers, these people have taken the risk of going for such an emotional number. I was taken aback at first. I thought that the song called Pitaah was more suited to a film that would probably be titled, Mera Parivaar, or Mera Ghar !” Sonu says that he is glad that finally fathers have a song in films too. “There are hardly any devoted to fathers, so I am glad that this song was recorded. It is an ode to the unsun heroes — dads. I’m sure that like me, anyon who hears the song will think of his or her own pitaah too.” ®
