Soooo..Grand Rapids. Let me tell you a thing or two about Grand Rapids. HORRIBLE to drive in. People drive like idiots. One way streets thatll make you insane. GREAT food. And..great people. THIS is why I KNOW Pay It Forward works. Tried to start my car in a Meijer parking lot, and shed start to turn over, but wouldnt quite catch. All I could think was, Shit..not here..not tonight...Ill miss my exam. What the hell do I do?? Good Gal knocks on my window and shows me jumper cables. We try to jump my car, and start talking about what we each do, etc....good convo...then I try to start my car and it turns over, but as soon as it gets going, it dies. She then says that her battery is just a temporary one, maybe its too small for my car to pull from. Cue Good Guy, who asks if he might be able to help. We tell him whats going on, he says, Well, I have a BRAND NEW BATTERY *trumpets herald* in this mini-van, so lets give her a go. Ten minutes later, were all 3 deep in conversation, my car is running. Turns out, Good Gals son is a firefighter, and Good Guys wife is a nurse. Good Gal then follows me to the gas station to make sure Im ok and my car is going to start...and tells me to keep her jumper cables until after my exam tomorrow. Im to just text her and let her know when Im done and well meet somewhere. These are GOOD jumper cables, mind you. And these are EXCEPTIONAL people. As I was leaving the gas station, I saw a man on the corner with a sign that read Homeless Veteran. Any Gift Appreciated. I dont care what anyone says or tells me; I pulled up and gave him the last bit of cash I had. He stood there and looked like he was about to cry, and I already was, so I drove off and told him God Bless, which he shouted at me in return. THIS is why you do good for others. THIS is why you Pay It Forward. THIS is what Life should be all about. Ive got the NCLEX. After all this, I cant help but think Im supposed to be down here, and good things are coming my way.
