Soooo....a friend of mine told me a story a couple weeks ago that I wished Id written down. I will try to remember it the best I can so I can share it with you. Here goes... A man sat shivering on the stairs of a Catholic Church early one chilly Sunday morning. He was wearing tattered clothing & holding a cup in one hand & a cardboard sign that read Please help me if you can...Im cold, homeless & hungry . As people walked into the Parrish they barley even made eye contact. They just rushed by this poor man quickly & held their childrens hands as to block them from looking at him. Soon inside the church the services started. The Priest gave his Sunday sermon & they all sang beautiful songs of praise to our savior. Halfway through the service the Priest with a voice filled with excitement said he had a very important announcement to make. He announced that the new Priest of their Parrish whom he hadnt even met himself.. was going to be in church with them today. The Priest looked around the congregation & finally said...Father if you are here with us today will you please join me up front? All the congregation looked around the huge chapel wondering who this great Priest was. Suddenly...the homeless man who had been sitting on the front stairs stood up still clasping his sign...walked up to the podium. The man in tattered clothes looked out & around his soon to be congregation & as he started speaking to them a tear rolled down his cheek. He said...I was on the steps of Gods House. I held a sign saying I was cold & hungry & you looked the other way. Not one of you offered me any comfort or any food to eat. He told them he was ashamed of them for being soo thoughtless not to reach out & help a hungry cold homeless man. He then told them to go home & pray to God for forgiveness & not to come back to church until they had truly changed their ways. ............................................................................ Well...this story really impressed me & I have thought of it many times since I heard it... You just dont know who may be under them tattered clothes do you??? Whoever it is whether its a Priest or not...they still need your help... .......................................................................... Yesterday afternoon I was told by someone that I should not feed or help the homeless nor even let them in my bar? This person said some other pretty hurtful things to me. I just sat there & believe it or not...I didnt strike back with hateful words. I did get up & go into the other room however & cry for a minute. Call me crazy but when that person left I even told them Merry Christmas. I really wanted to tell this person this story but in this case it wouldnt have made a difference. Maybe after reading this...if you see someone in need...youll reach out & help them. No matter what people say...I will help them every chance I get...:).
