Soroptimist of Chino Hills Inland Empire is sponsoring the annual “Walk Against Human Trafficking” on Sunday, January 25, 2015, to commence at 3:00 PM at the Shoppes in Chino Hills. We are seeking a girl from our community between the age of 11 and 13 to walk in the front with the banner carrying a lantern. Each year, a girl within this age group is selected and has a distinguished responsibility to represent the global victims of human trafficking who are predominantly young girls. The lantern held by the girl represents the “light” that is shone on the issue of human trafficking to raise awareness to stop this terrible crime. Candidates for the honor must reside in Chino or Chino Hills. The ceremony will entail having the former Chino Hills Mayor hand her a lantern with candle to hold while leading our community on the Walk. Upon completing the Walk she will hand the lantern over to the current Chino Hills Mayor. Once she hands the lantern to the Mayor, she will be asked to stay on the stage for a brief period of time. Lastly, Soroptimist of Chino Hills Inland Empire is seeking children between the ages of 8 and 16 to be part of the Children around the World at the ceremony to be held on a stage at the conclusion of the “Walk Against Human Trafficking” in the Shoppes Promenade. The children will say three lines in the Language they represent. We would like to include American Sign Language as well. We will select a primary child to speak each language, and will select an “understudy” backup if the first candidate cannot make the event.
