Sorry Im late in posting this, but I received an e-mail from the Mandarins corps director, Jim Tabuchi, giving us an update to how the corps is doing and expressing his thanks for our on-going support. Its great to know that our donations have had the intended effect: to ensure that kids get to experience drum corps in the most positive way. Check it out. .... I just wanted to pass along some really great news. Today we just announced the latest member to join our Mandarins instructional staff. Her name is Kalei Cablay. This is one of those moments in time when we have to stop and celebrate as an organization, and I certainly include the Nisei Ambassadors as well. You see Kalei is one of those individuals who came to the Mandarins as a very shy and reserved girl from Hawaii. She had a lot more heart and determination then she had skill. Through the years we worked with her, she progressed, she came out of her shell and persevered. Thanks to the Nisei Ambassadors Scholarship she was able to march her age-out year as the Color Guard Captain. She had a fantastic final season and actually won the Most Valuable Member Award (Joe Fong Memorial) through a vote by her fellow marching members. See her bio here... Click here for Kaleis Biography Fast forward, she went on to lead the Mandarins Guard Academy where she recruited over 30 members. This effort led to the largest and most talented guard audition camp in our history. She then took on the roll of leading our Mandarins Spin Club! and has now been appointed as one of the members of our staff. Not that I condone it, but she now has a tattoo on her shoulder of the Hawaiian Islands superimposed with the Mandarins logo. She expresses that this is a picture of her home and her family. This is an example of organizational success and a story that we strive for with all of our members. I want to thank the Nisei Ambassadors for the years of support and for helping to make this success happen. Please pass along this message with our most heart felt THANK YOU! Best regards, Jim Tabuchi Mandarins Corps Director
