Sorry Roy, for all your experience youre not a patch on the tactical genius of Sir Bobby Robson. We should have gone with 3 centre halves in both games in a 3-5-2, with the full backs pushed forward as wingbacks not dissimilar to England in Italia 90. Thus Baines and Johnson would have benefitted from playing to their strengths ( getting down the flanks- and not trying to imitate an International class full back). Meanwhile the extra centre half would nullify the line striker role- Suarez and Ballotelli respectively. Englands lack of a defensive minded midfielder would not have been exposed by playing Gerrard and Henderson as holding midfielders. Sterling could have pushed forward into the hole behing Rooney and Sturridge when on the front foot. Yes we were poor last night, but the manager must carry the can!!!
