Sorry about my lack of posts recently, Ive been pretty busy! As far as our local area goes, there doesnt look to be any obvious major weather systems in the near future (that can easily change though). But over many other parts, its a very different story. A major rain event is likely to unfold in the coming days with widespread heavy rainfall spreading from northern Australia down through central and into southeastern parts of the continent. Very severe thunderstorms are also possible for some locations in southern SE Australia from tomorrow (Thu). Rainfall accumulated over the next several days may reach a few hundred mm or more in some places, especially in the middle of the continent. This has the potential to cause significant rises in creeks and rivers in the affected regions as well as flash flooding where heavier thunderstorms occur. This is due to the strengthening low over northern WA and mosnoonal flow with lots of tropical moisture streaming down into the midlatitudes. This will be lifted by a cold front sweeping across SE Australia tomorrow. The 1st and 2nd images are model-generated graphics showing where there might be some ingredients around for different types of severe weather. The 3rd image is a map showing estimated total rainfall amounts over the next several days generated by a system run by the BoM which uses all the major models. The 4th image is a thunderstorm graph for Brisbane during the next 10 days (this is an experimental version which only uses a single model so may be less accurate than the standard version) (Ken):
