Monash University is holding an international conference called Interactive Futures: Young Peoples Mediated Lives in the Asia Pacific and Beyond, to be held Dec 1-2, 2014 at Monash Caulfield campus, open to all members of the public. There are many reasons why this discussion is important right now, such as the impact of K-pop, video-gaming, online cyber-activism, online vigilantism (human flesh searches anyone?), censorship (e.g. lese majeste laws), and even the rise of an online spoofing culture in China. Brief intro: This conference, hosted by the Monash School of Social Sciences and the Griffith Centre for Cultural Research, and with assistance from MAI, explores young people’s engagement with new modes of mediated communication, self-expression and culture- making across the Asia Pacific and beyond.
