Sorry this post is so long but i felt i needed to say this. Here we are at Union Mills Westminister this past Sunday. So let me say this before it goes out that Dottie was a handfull and chewed on her bit all day. We had a beautiful day together. Our very first trail ride away from home. Dottie was a little anxious at first as I knew she would be but not uncontrollable. She did a good job standing for me to mount. She was afraid to come off of the trailer and had to be forced off. Thank you Danny Burrier. She was apprehensive about going into water but once I got her feet in she went through. We had to climb a steep soft grade to go around a downed tree. It was very soft and she slid back a little a few times. Took a bit of encouragement but she finally went up. Coming down the other side was just as scared for her and she was really shaking. Once down she calmed down very quickly. With each new encounter she did better. On the way back she was the first one up and around the tree. We had several opportunities to canter out ahead of the others. With a very slight touch of my heel we were off on a beautiful ride. She did chomp on her bit a few times but only when she felt anxious. I was able to to ride her with a light hand and did not to hold her in with the reins. She neck reined nicely and would stop immediately when asked. And bless her heart when we got home she backed off of the trailer like a pro. Thanks go out to Chandra Whipp and Cathy Rice for giving me the opportunity to get to know my horse better. I cant say it enough. And Dottie and I appreciate the extra help and encouragement from the other riders who helped us and gave Dottie a lot of encouragement that helped build her confidence .
