Soured Romance Suspected In Fatal Double Stabbing By Martha Taumata The violent deaths of a man and woman in their mid20s from fatal stabbings on Wednesday morning at Lalovaea, may be the result of a romance that had gone sour. The pair had once worked together at the Vaea Motel and were alleged by working colleagues to have been in a relationship. The 23 year old woman did housekeeping duties until she decided to stay home, at about the same time the man was let go as a groundsman about four months ago. The woman however decided to return to work and had only been back for about a week in her old job, before the fatal attack by the 27 year old man that killed them both. A police officer on his way to work actually witnessed the stabbing tragedy while making his way for traffic duties at Vaimoso between 7.00am –7.30am, according to the Acting Commissioner of Police, Fauono Talalelei Tapu. The young woman, was seen staggering onto the side of the road, chased by a man. The officer then reportedly saw the woman stumbled and fell to the ground beside the road. The man in hot pursuit allegedly stopped, turned back and allegedly stabbed himself repeatedly in the chest before collapsing onto the middle of the road. The tragedy occurred in front of the motel and a witness who was inside at the time said they heard a woman’s scream, rising above the normal din of the busy morning traffic. The injured woman was already on the ground by the time they rushed up to her. “ We saw several stabbing wounds and she was already unconscious and in a bad shape, we saw the man lying on the road too,’ the eyewitness recalled. Newsline learned from sources that the deceased woman was reportedly on her way to work with another woman and may have been joined by the man. The second woman then went ahead to the motel to start work, leaving behind her colleague to talk with the man outside. Both victims were seen to be in a critical condition already when they were rushed off to the hospital. Fauono said that both were taken to the hospital in an LTA vehicle, with serious chest wounds. He did not say if they died along the way or at the hospital. Police investigations are continuing but the man was found to be from Sasina and Vaitele Fou while the woman was from Letogo and Savaia, Lefaga.
