South West Seeks FG’s Intervention In Agric Sector The South West states commissioners of agriculture have called the federal government to intervene in the development of agriculture as a means to bringing development to their states. The commissioners, led by the director-general, Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN), Mr Dipo Famakinwa, made the request at a meeting of the minister of agriculture and rural development, Mr Akinwumi Adesina, with commissioners of agriculture of the South West states in Abuja on Monday. Speaking on the purpose of the visit, the leader of the delegation, Famakinwa, said, “The reason behind DAWN was to present a platform where all the states could collaborate to bring development to their states.” He described the DAWN “as a development /optimisation strategy and a template for cross border action in which development could spread to other parts of the nation, adding that the developments were to be carried out on five platforms to include economic development, social/human development, infrastructural development, inclusive institution/effective governance as well as homeland matters.” Dr Famakinwa further revealed that the activities of the Commission will be focused on the development of agriculture, development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Development of Cultural tourism and enhance use of digital capacity with agriculture being on the front burner.
