Southern Bone and Joint Specialists, PA. will offer a free weekly Saturday morning sports clinic through Nov. 9 at 8:30 a.m. at 3688 Veterans Memorial Dr. in Hattiesburg. For almost 30 years, SBJ orthopaedic surgeons have offered a sports medicine clinic to evaluate injured athletes. The clinic is one of the many services that Southern Bone and Joint Specialists have provided to area athletes. Parents are encouraged to accompany the athlete. There will be a charge for x-rays, supplies or medications. “We did these clinics on Friday evenings for years, but found that the majority of players would awake on Saturday morning with a swollen knee or swollen ankle or shoulder pain,” said orthopaedic surgeon Doug Rouse. “We decided to move the clinic to Saturday to better serve these athletes. Of course, if a player has a fracture, dislocation or painful injury and needs to be seen Friday night, we are always available.” Rouse began the sports medicine clinics with the area’s first high school athletic trainer Pedro Moreno.
