“Space-Time Displacement and Cultural Translation in a World of Migration” Public lecture and interdisciplinary postgraduate workshop by world expert Prof. Anil Bhatti (New Delhi) Thursday, 29 May, 2014, Mary Immaculate College Prof. Anil Bhatti (New Delhi), an international expert in intercultural and postcolonial studies, will give a public lecture in English on “Space-Time Displacement and Cultural Translation in a World of Migration” as part of the international conference on “Transit Spaces” hosted by the Irish Centre for Transnational Studies. This will be followed by an interdisciplinary workshop on this topic for postgraduate students from MIC and UL, hosted by the Research and Graduate School, MIC. Postgraduates from other third-level institutions are welcome to register to attend the workshop. Chaired by Prof. Jim Deegan (Foundation Building, G08, MIC) Prof. Bhatti has researched and lectured widely in comparative cultural studies, with a key focus on relations between Europe and India/Asia. His lecture and workshop will touch on questions of migration, multilingualism and syncretism in a globalised world, and on their methodological implications for cultural studies, especially with regard to translation as a cultural practice.
