: Spare me the glee and triumphalism at the self-immolation of the PQ. . . . weve gone back into the frying pan (or casserole) from the fire. In all likelihood were back where we were during the Maple Spring and the Carrés Rouges protests against the PLQs abetting of the corporatising of higher education and its First Nations-screwing, environmentally destructive Plan Nord, not to mention some probably more subtle version of the old cash-in-brown-envelopes corruption and collusion between the government and the construction industry. Theres a reason Québec is the pothole capital of North America and that bridges are crumbling, and its not the PQ, who have been in power only a fraction of the recent decades in which the decline of infrastructure has accelerated. Lets also not forget that the hundreds of millions wasted on uncompetitive building contracts at UQÀM and elsewhere happened under Liberal governments, the same governments you Québécois-bashing Anglos have uncritically supported so long as they nobly defend your butts against the single issue of separatism.—Kai Matthews, No Triumph (April 8, 2014)
