Specialist, Senior - Drill & Blast . Papua New Guinea Barrick (Niugini) Limited, the operator of the Porgera Mine, is part of the Barrick Gold Corporation group of companies which has interests in mines in Australia, the Porgera Mine in Papua New Guinea and exploration interests throughout the region. Position Objective We seek to appoint an experienced Specialist, Senior – Drill & Blast to join the Porgera Team. Reporting directly to the Superintendent – Open Pit the Specialist, Senior – Drill & Blast is responsible for the supervising of open pit drill and blast activities. Duties and Responsibilities: · Planning of drill and blast activities according to the 2-weekly plan for open pit mining; · Approve the drill and blast components of the daily plan for open pit mining and coordinate drill and blast activities to achieve the plan; · Fulfil the statutory role of magazine holder and maintain magazine stock levels; · Ensure the storage, handling and use of explosives complies with statutory and site requirements; · Ensure the competency development and assessment of drill and blast crews; · Ordering of explosives and drill consumables. To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following: · Recognised Australian Blasting ticket (state) and PNG Blasting ticket; · Eligible for appointment as site Magazine Holder; · Certificate IV Workplace Training and Assessment (or equivalent); · Extensive experience in a similar position in large open pit mining operations; · Experience in development the role-specific knowledge of drill and blast supervisors; · Current Drivers Licence. The position is fly in/fly out from Cairns on a 16/12 roster. The company will subsidise on-travel airfares paid to commute to and from Cairns for each work roster.
