Spent the afternoon compiling results of the Locus Survey -- all - TopicsExpress

Spent the afternoon compiling results of the Locus Survey -- all the questions below the Locus Poll ballot about your age, reading habits, interests, and so on. The emails generated by the Locus Poll web page get imported into a Microsoft Access database. Code parses text strings into table fields in the database; summation queries on each table field generate tallies of the possible answers to each question. I manually run each query, copy and paste the results onto an Excel spreadsheet. (It would take longer, I think, to automate the running and capture of all those queries than it would be worth, in part since the set of survey questions changes from year to year.) Then ship the entire Excel file to Locus HQ, where Carolyn Cushman has the (likely far longer) task of interpreting the results and writing them up... for the August issue of Locus Magazine. (Meanwhile the Locus senior staff is in Seattle this weekend, for the Locus Awards. Results to be posted tomorrow evening, I suppose. I compiled those results 8 weeks ago...) locusmag/
