Spice King (Penrith) Ltd, based on Cross Croft Industrial Estate in Appleby, would like to appoint a Food Operative/Cook, to prepare Asian and British influenced frozen ready meals. The meals are sold wholesale to venues across Cumbria and the North. Therefore it is a role that requires an eye for detail, a real enthusiasm for quality food and ability to work to deadlines. The position is for 30 hours per week. The hours are 8.30am to 3pm, Monday to Friday, with 30 minutes unpaid lunch break. We are willing to consider appointing the successful candidate either as an employee or on a self-employed basis (subject to appropriate insurances etc.). We are looking for someone who; • Is passionate about food • Can work in a routine manner • Delivers consistently high standards • Has experience of working in food production or catering • Has a good standard of English and Maths • Takes pride in their personal appearance The role will require the successful applicant to; • Ensure excellent standards of food hygiene are adhered to • Prepare raw materials • Follow standard recipes • Cook food • Pack and store prepared meals • Conduct routine cleaning and washing up • Work well in a team and individually • Lift and safely move heavy catering pans, sacks of produce etc. • Undertake food hygiene training and other courses as appropriate* • Wear uniform and protective footwear (provided)* *A clawback scheme is in operation for clothing and training i.e. if an employee leaves within a specified period an element of the cost will be recouped from the final pay.
