Spoiler warning: My mother died at the age of 60 at the weight of 83lbs because of lack of appetite. PLEASE no... stop whining about being skinny comments. That said... Does anyone have any experience with or knowledge of lack of appetite (technically Anorexia) as a genetic / neurological disorder with the absence of Body Dysmorphic symptoms or psychological factors? Heres the deal... I have a very poor appetite. Its almost as if my brain doesnt cue me to eat. Usually I wont eat until I start feeling weak, dizzy and have a stomach ache (anywhere between 6-8 hours after waking). Trying to eat before that is hell. Every bite I take is like eating sawdust, I have to force myself just to chew and swallow. On occasion (3-5 times a week) I will feel hungry, and enjoy eating a meal. Thats about as good as it gets. Otherwise, I eat because I want to relieve the physical pain and because I know I need to, and I usually do not enjoy it... Its a chore that has to be gotten through. Strangely, I just found out my brother, who is 47 (two years older than I), experiences the exact same thing. Neither one of us are Body Dysmorphic. As a female I am fortunate enough to have a halfway decent BMI, my brother however has a dangerously low BMI. Searching the internet all I can find are articles about either Anorexia Nervosa (which neither of us have) or lack of appetite symptoms related to chemotherapy, medication side effects or the like. Any input I could get on this would be greatly appreciated. Up until this morning I though it was only me, and had learned not to try to discuss it with people because they would think I was just fishing for complements or they would say how lucky I was to be skinny (lucky like my dead mom). Anyway, having found out this morning that my 100% bio brother has the EXACT SAME THING I am wondering if there is more to it than my just being weird. tia for any thoughts or info. feel free to share... :-)
