Sports: Bacolod Snares 4 Gold Medals; De Josef wins 3 golds in Batang Pinoy-Visayas athletics MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte - Bacolod City made it with four gold medals minus the 4 X 4 relay yesterday with Rodolf Dave Orbita, Jr., collecting two personal gold medals after winning the boy’s 400 hurdles and 800 meters at the close of athletics competition in Batang Pinoy Visayas leg here. Orbita also won silver medal in boy’s 400 meters dominated by Jrict Ray Talicug and part of the 4 X 100 relay that won the gold medal. Errick Empio was another gold medalist for Bacolod City for winning the boy’s 110 hurdles, while he took the silver in boy’s 400 hurdles behind teammate Orbita. Clyde Lim, who settled for silver medal in boy’s 100 meters behind Jrict Ray Talicug, also won the bronze medal in boy’s 200 meters yesterday. May Therese Gula added another bronze medal in 800 meters yesterday dominated by Angelica De Josef of Lezo, Aklan. She earlier took the bronze in girls 400 meters also dominated by De Josef Wednesday. De Josef made it three in a row winning the 800 meters yesterday. She earlier won the gold medals in girl’s 400 and 1,500 meters. De Josef, a 14-year old 2nd year high school who transferred school from Monfort Technical Institute in New Washington to Lezo Integrated School in Aklan, was best remembered as she reset the 18-year old record of NCR’s Dely Condes in 800-meter established in 1995 Lingayen, Pangasinan Palaro. Meanwhile, Iloilo Province surged in the last day of the event with Lanz Jeremy Halongong adding another gold medal capturing the boy’s discus throw in 32.57 meters, while teammate John Christian Capaso won the silver with a heave of 32.01 meters. Halongong earlier ruled the boy’s shot put (10.94 meters), while Capaso took the silver (10.80m) Wednesday. On Thursday, Capaso dominated the boy’s javelin throw in 49.95 meters, as Halongong took the bronze (40.00) behind the silver medal of Kim Doncil of Leyte Sports Academy (48.37). Cherry Ann Patricio also of Iloilo Province dominated the girl’s javelin throw with 30.86 meters ahead of Apple Mae Adlawon of southern Leyte 929.82) and Leyte Sports Academy’s Krizelle Jane Abajon (927.29 meters). Ezel Divinagracia of Iloilo Province won the girl’s 400 hurdles clocking 1:13.56 over Aklan’s Cyra Shane Casidsid (1:15.32) and Cebu City’s Camille Psalm Masola (1:16.23). Divinagracia also settled for bronze medal in 100 hurdles on Wednesday (17.92) dominated by Karen Janario of Leyte Sports Academy (15.58), who became double gold medalist when she also won the girls’ 100 meters. Berna Luz Talaron of Iloilo Province settled for bronze after sustaining a cramp in girl’s 200 meters won by Gemmalyn Pino of Leyte Sports Academy Thursday, while teammate Pia Angelica Barcino also took the bronze in girl’s triple jump (9.87 meters) dominated by Jhuvan Jhen Baculot of Cebu City (10.13 meters), while Cebu City’s Shantel Tanucan settled for silver (9.94). Iloilo province’s Elrica Anne Guro placed second behind Janario in girl’s 100 meters, while Rose Marie Olorvida of Leyte Province settled for bronze medal in 13.37 seconds, as Iloilo province prospect Berna Luz Talaron was fourth. The fastest boy and girl in the meet was Cebu City’s Jrict Ray Talicug who clocked 11.82 seconds; and LSA-Smart Karen Janario’s 13.05 seconds in the boy’s and girl’s division. Talicug was a triple gold medalist for winning also the boy’s 400 meters in 53.85 seconds and 200 meters, while Janario, a double gold medalist after winning the girl’s 100m hurdles.* (Cyrus M.
