Squabbles over Sata’s Estates Emerge Squabbling over the estate of former president Sata who will be buried at Embassy Park tomorrow has started in the first family with relatives from Chitulika village in Mpika already demanding that properties of the late be assembled together for sharing. Sources at Cabinet Office say trouble has been brewing at State House where First Lady Dr Christine Kaseba held her own funeral. “It’s relatives like Finance minister Chikwanda who has been trying to calm tension as the villagers from Chitulika did not seem ready to compromise. But Chikwanda has somehow convinced them to wait until after burial,” the source said. The source has further told Zambia Reports that it is likely the estate of the former president will be shared among his more than 18 children, three wives and the relatives from Chitulika. The source said, President Sata, who was staunch Catholic did not divorce Mulenga Sata’s mother and another woman as the Catholic Church does not allow divorce. The source said Mulenga Sata’s mother had actually moved into State House a few weeks before the president flew to United Kingdom where he died. “There was concern from the children, especially the Lusaka mayor who felt his father was not given the attention he deserved. So he brought in his mother to help the boss,” the source said. He said the mood has been charged with emotion by the group that came from Chitulika as they also complained that they were not told the truth about the health of their relative. The source said it is believed that the president left his will with his lawyer Bonaventure Mutale of Ellis and Company. zambiareports/2014/11/10/squabbles-satas-estates-emerge/
