Message from J. Robert Carr- Dear State Council Director, I want to share with you that SHRM is in discussions surrounding an affiliation with HRPS (HR People & Strategy) a membership network of senior HR professionals. The SHRM Board continues to explore various options to better serve the HR profession, and position HR and our association for the future. Consistent with our strategic plans, we want to provide outstanding service to HR professionals at every stage of their career and we believe this affiliation enhances our offerings to the senior segment. Like SHRM, HRPS’s mission is to bring together HR leaders into a member-led community to actively learn and exchange knowledge so that members can achieve their potential, drive organization performance and advance our profession. Many of you may be familiar with HRPS, as our due diligence revealed that approximately one-third of HRPS’s national members are also SHRM members. SHRM views this potential affiliation as an opportunity to better serve all segments of the profession; to create greater unity within the HR profession; and to give added prominence and influence to the SHRM family of organizations, as we seek to advance the professional practice of human resource management. Today, the HRPS Board notified its membership about the potential affiliation arrangement with SHRM and is seeking their concurrence to proceed. The HRPS Board strongly believes that the proposed affiliation is in the best interest of HRPS because SHRM provides HRPS with the best opportunity to flourish and grow in the HR community, while retaining the essential qualities that have been key to its success since its inception. It should be noted that if the HRPS membership affirms the HRPS Board’s recommendation to affiliate with SHRM, we will conclude an operating agreement. HRPS would retain its Board and operate as a separate entity within the SHRM family, although all activities and overlapping services will be rationalized and coordinated. HRPS would continue to provide a full portfolio of offerings. HR People & Strategy, a widely respected journal, would continue to serve as an important source of thought leadership in the profession, maintaining its 35-year tradition of volunteer leadership and engagement. SHRM’s current structure, chapters and governance would not change as a result of the strategic affiliation with HRPS. We will let you know if and when the negotiations are concluded.
