St. Louis area friends....e hear my friends, Tabitha and Jason talk about the implications of fracking on agriculture. The recent "regulatory" bill in Illinois was written by industry lobbyists and passed by the legislature, riding the waves of industry money that has saturated the Capitol. The bill gives a rubber stamp for this destructive practice without any real input by those who stand to lose the most, all for the sake of natural gas that is already slated for export markets that promise profits greater than 5 times those possible in domestic markets. In a shocking turn of events, Gov. Quinn, Rep. Bradley (D-Marion), and their cohorts managed to avoid real public debate on an issue that falsely promises jobs to an economically depressed area, and buried mountains of evidence from areas of the country that have already been destroyed by the irreversible impact of fracking on water, air and soil. You might be surprised to find out that Mississippi Sand, LLC (Maryland Heights) has a quarry near Festus, Mo., and is looking to develop a new mine near Starved Rock State Park in Ottawa, Illinois. Other Missouri operators include Maryland-based U.S. Silica and Texas-based FTS International LLC. In fact, there are only four states in the U.S. that are not currently in the scope of this all-consuming industry because they have no know silica sand or shale oil/gas reserves. Fracking affects, or will affect, nearly every region of the nation. Metro St. Louis is no different. Come learn the truth about fracking. There is nothing lining our pockets (except perhaps a little organic soil). SLOWednesday - Farming & Fracking Wednesday at 7:30pm Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood, Missouri
