St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center 3115 Lawndale Flint, Ml 48504 810-239-8710 Our Mission is to help at-risk women become self-sustainable. How do we carry out this mission? Three Year Program of Life Change Through this program we teach at-risk women to take hold of their lives and learn basic life skills that will help them make better choice for themselves, their children and grandchildren. We offer: exercise, nutrition, canning, cooking, anger management, parenting classes, CPR training, goal set¬ting, financial literacy, GED preparation & learning to love yourself to name a few. We have twenty three components to help women to change their lives. Employment Preparation Classes We provide three month classes for men and women in order to train them in a work ethic. This program offers exercise, computer training, skill building classes (problem solving, language in the work place, the art coming to work: being on time, working, positive attitude, etc.) and GED preparation. Upon successful! completion of the class requirements, the men and women are welcome to interview for a job in our sewing business making scrubs and full-coverage hospital gowns or our lawn care and snow removal business as well as at Landaal Packaging and North Gate Packaging. The lawn care goal is to do the much needed blight elimination around abandoned homes and fields near the Center. Literacy Program We provide the opportunity for men and women to obtain their GED in order to go on to college and/or to get sustainable employment. Counseling Professional counseling is offered for anyone who desires the opportunity. We also offer grief counseling for those who have experienced the death of someone close to them. Food Pantry We distribute groceries to two large zip codes in the City of Flint. We are servicing nearly 2,500 women, men and children We serve hot meals to our neighbors twice a week. Most of our food is purchased from the Food Bank of Eastern Michi¬gan. Food for the meals that are not available from the food bank have to be purchased too but at a greater cost. We rely on donations, a couple of small grants and the proceeds of a monthly Sunday breakfast at our church. We anticipate the end of the year expenditure to be close to $100,000 for feeding nearly 30,000 individuals.
