St. Sukie’s Strange Garden of Woodland Creatures When I let the dogs out this morning, a manatee was singing Roy Orbison’s … Pretty woman, walking down the street. Pretty woman, the kind I like to meet. Pretty woman. I dont believe you, youre not the truth. No one could look as good as you … Mercy!” After the dawn chorus had ended, the manatee levitated and was carried back to the Sea of Heartbreak by a strong gust of wind. I walked across the garden, down the side of the house, and caught the steam train to Bed, Bath and Beyond the Horizon. The train was crowded with woodland creatures. We made three stops, the Toy Farm, the Undoing of Charlie Montague, the 39 Steps, then the train pulled into Bed Bath and Beyond the Horizon. I was greeted by a Tiffany Lamp, “St. Sukie, we’re so pleased you could come on our special day.” How could I miss this auspicious of days, Doris Day,” I said. Every so often, St. Sukie’s Strange Garden of Woodland Creatures celebrates Doris Day with an open air concert by the woodland creatures. This concert was organized by the Tiffany Lamps. I sat on the grass next to a family of chimpanzees and watched a kangaroo in a blonde wig, cracking a whip and singing … Oh the Deadwood Stage is a-rollin on over the plains. With the curtains flappin and the driver slappin the reins. A beautiful sky, a wonderful day. Whip crack-away, whip crack-away, whip crack-away. Penguins in bow ties walked among the crowd handing out the finest strawberries, champagne and marijuana brownies from the Badger’s Bakery. During a pigeon’s rendition of Doris Day’s “Secret Love” the Hairy Balloons cried crocodile tears and the crocodiles cried Hairy Balloon tears. The applause was deafening. Then it was my turn. I jumped onto the stage, stepped up to the microphone and sang … you can all sing along too if you want … When I was just a little girl. I asked my mother. What will I be. Will I be pretty. Will I be rich. Heres what she said to me. Que sera, sera. Whatever will be, will be. The futures not ours to see. Que sera, sera. What will be, will be … “ Happy Doris Day Facebook readers … Happy Doris Day!! Now, where’s my cup of Earl Gray?
