Stacy, please review and post if this is O.K. here: Natural Swine Association Proposal My fellow natural swine farmers please read the following with an open mind. We are inclined to ask a few questions of you as to whether you, as a smaller scale natural swine farmer, feel well represented today in your endeavor. Other than yourself, who presents issues that are important to you today in the Government? Who helps you with your advertising so as to gain new customers for your products? Who, other than a few caring neighbors or long internet searches lends you and your neighbor a hand in getting started in natural swine farming on his own? Do you feel like you are completely on your own in advertising, expansion of your farm and facilities and the knowledge “nuts and bolts” of your chosen trade? If your answer to any of these questions is “I feel alone in all of this”, then please consider the following. What if there was an organization that you could join, for a small fee, which would assist you in starting or expanding your operation? What if there was an organization that would advertise on a National level for your specific product? What if this organization could help you to gain new customers for your product? Would you expand? Would you care to share your knowledge with others starting out? What we are proposing here is a National Association that would help in all of these areas and much more. As a startup organization we would need the support of small to medium sized natural swine farmers across the nation. Your small membership fee would include your farm in the benefits of the association to include representation in Government, large scale advertising focused on small to medium sized farms promoting direct sales to individuals, restaurants as well as local and state Government facilities including local schools. We would also, in time, be able to present scholarships, a “one stop” web based naturally raised swine farm “search and connect” website and naturally raised swine based research programs. So, what kind of farms would we represent? The kind of swine farms that we would represent and promote are natural-type growing operations. These would include: Pastured pigs, Non-GMO fed pigs, organically raised pigs and just about any swine grower that raises their stock in an unconfined, natural manner. We already know the benefits of swine grown in this manner. It is simply a better product then CAFO grown operations. There is no comparison in quality, taste and health factors. We desire to represent swine farmers whose operations are as small as a few hogs up to hundreds of hogs. As swine farmers ourselves, we understand what the needs and desires of natural swine farmers are. We understand that most farms start out small and grow over time from part time farms into full time operations. It seems that one of the biggest issues in operations like ours today are lack of consumer knowledge of the benefits and availability of our product as well as the detrimental influence of other entities such as USDA and some local entities can be on operations such as ours. The time has finally come, awareness is growing, and consumers are becoming more and more interested in what they put onto the family dinner plates and the consequences thereof. What needs to happen now is to put the consumers in touch with the idea of buying products from locally grown, natural operations either direct from the farm or as patrons of local eateries. We just have to let them know of the willingness and availability of our existing and new startup natural swine growing operations to serve them our wholesome products. Have you heard of the national advertising campaign “Pork, The other white meat”? This campaign was created in 1987 by the National Pork Council through the Pork Checkoff program. Once that campaign started pork sales increased greatly but at the same time so did large type CAFO operations while there was a declining number of operations of pastured/ naturally grown pork. The reason for this trend is because: The National Pork Council DOES NOT REPRESENT YOU. We will. This Association wants to fill the gap that the “other” organizations closed years ago. (Sample) Mission Statement The mission of the National Homestead Pork Producers Association is to promote and nurture the growth and development of the (non-confined, pastured, free range pork) industry and its related businesses while assuring the health, safety and security of the buying public. Our shared vision is for the (non-confined, pastured, free range pork) industrys economy to grow and prosper providing everyone, producers and consumers, opportunities to enjoy the fruits of agriculture... So, please join with us when the time comes. We want you to succeed with us. Please look for, join and grow with us in the upcoming year. Thanks for your time and attention in this manner, hope to see you soon. With kindest regards, Kevin Stredney, David Crafton, et al.. 1/13/2015 nhppa.proboards/
