Stand up for yourself! “David was greatly distressed, for the men spoke of stoning him because the souls of them all were bitterly grieved, each man for his sons and daughters. But David encouraged and strengthened himself in the Lord his God” -1 Samuel 30:6 Sometimes, we go through issues that no one else can quite understand how we feel, and hence unable to empathise with us, David was a man who gave his all to serve God and his people, even though he had personal challenges, God still referred to him as ‘a man after His heart’, and part of David’s principles was never to let the stormy waters get inside the boat. David went through a tough period, he had to contend with the whims of the people he led, at a period of his life when things were not going on well and he was in sorrow, the last thing he needed was his very own people turning against him as well. He had to face the grief of his own personal loss and deal with the outrage of his people too. Those who once showered him with accolades were now ready to stone him, however, the Bible records that he stood up for himself. He encouraged himself. There comes a time in life when it seems that everything and everyone is against you, it seems as if those you have done so much for have turned their back on you and let you down, at this point, you need to motivate yourself, encourage yourself, you cannot wait for anyone to do it for you, you have to do it yourself. David however exemplifies an incredible spiritual fortitude, in the midst of trouble, disappointments, heartbreak and loss, he turned to God, he recognised his inability to resolve matters himself, he made sure the stormy waters did not get on his inside to make him depressed, he chose to encourage himself the Lord and God was able to guide him, remove his shame and assure him of victory. Storms of life will attempt to blow us away and the waters will attempt to get on our inside to make us sink, but whatever we do, we need to make sure, the water doesnt get into our boat, and guard our hearts with the Word of God. Don’t wait for anyone to encourage you, ENCOURAGE yourself in the LORD your GOD! Confession I will not give up or give in until my victory is manifested, supernatural empowerment is my portion, I will not faint, I will not faint. Halleluyah!
