Staples vs. sutures after a C-Section. Which are better ? This comes up not infrequently with patients since the feeling is that staples may be more uncomfortable. Staples are faster , but according to a new study sutures have less complications. The study however was funded by Ethicon, a maker of sutures ! The study found that 10.6% of women with staples had wound complications, mostly infections and separations of the incision, compared with 4.9% of the women with stitches. Other studies have indicated that the scaring is the same with both closures. Staples are usually removed 3 days after a bikini incision and tape called steri-stripes are left in place. If the closure is a concern, you need to discuss the issue ahead of the procedure.
