Starfish are literally MELTING and dissolving by the millions right now...Im sorry to post another downer message but as Vancouverites right by the Pacific, we need to be aware of this. The cause seems to be (from everything Ive read, not just this article) a compound of a few different problems, such as rising water temperatures due to global warming and the Fukushima waste disaster...a severe imbalance in the oceans ecosystem. Sea stars are an apex predator in the intertidal zone. They voraciously consume mussels and other shellfish, and they are referred to as a “keystone species,” meaning that, like in any stone building, if you remove the keystone things start to crumble.
