Starting Thursday I will start to forecast the event for next - TopicsExpress

Starting Thursday I will start to forecast the event for next week. Would love to give you some specifics by Thursday and Friday - that is going to push every limit of my forecasting ability. However, with SuperBowl weekend coming up and the storm starting as early as Monday night into Tuesday - that puts forecasters in a bit of a bind. Numbers look big for next week - could be a lot of rain. Someone could have quite a bit of snow and ice. But, right now we dont know where to place the 32 degree line. And that makes all the difference. Total precipitation amounts could exceed 1 - that would be 1 of melted precipitation. A lot of the data is actually showing 1-3 of liquid precipitation. That is a lot of precipitation for the winter months. Heck, that is a lot of precipitation in any given month. With that said - starting on Thursday or Thursday night I will start having a better idea of generalities (hopefully). By Friday I would love to give you a first guess on how things unfold. The first few forecasts will be fairly general. Then I will start to fine tune everything with each passing day. This may be one of those events that we will be better off prepared than not prepared. So, I will give you my opinion on the forecast data. As always - as always - winter storms are a pain in the rear to forecast. Any shift in storm track and intensity will throw a forecast off. Remember what happened back in early January. What started out as a BIG snow event for some of our region ended up with no snow at all (at least for parts of the forecast area). I would pay a bit more attention over the coming days as to how this system unfolds. The Gulf of Mexico will be wide open. That means copious amounts of precipitation for someone in the Ohio and/or Tennessee Valleys. Stay tuned.
