State employees continue to get the shaft on pay raises despite strong empirical data that would easily justify raises. Educated and organized voters turning out at the polls and supporting those who support them is a key solution. However are there solutions deeper than turning out the vote? Why do you think state workers are so easily passed over for raises? Lack of organization/engagement, effective lobbying and educational campaigns…….where are state workers going wrong and what do you think they should do to turn the tide? The Florida legislature passed the largest budget in history, $77.1 billion. Florida spends less money on its state government workforce than any other state The Florida TaxWatch Turkey report is out and contains about $120 million in “turkeys” and gives examples of what the money could be spent on instead. One of the examples is “State employee Raises: Provide a $1,048 raise for each of the state’s 114,481 state employees”.
