NDEM is in monitor status for the state of Nevada. National Preparedness Level for Wildfire Activity: PL 2 – LOW Preparedness Level 2: Several Geographic Areas are experiencing high to extreme fire danger. Wildland fire activity is increasing, and large fires are occurring in one (1) or more Geographic Areas. Minimal mobilization of resources from other Geographic Areas is occurring. There is moderate commitment of National Resources with the potential to mobilize additional resources from other Geographic Areas. Western Great Basin Preparedness Level for Wildfire Activity: PL 1 – LOW Preparedness Level 1: No large wildland fires in progress. Most units have low to moderate fire danger. Number and size of fires within normal range for that time of year. Little or no commitment of other than local resources. National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS): No Current Alerts The Secretary of Homeland Security has not issued an elevated or imminent alert at this time; we remain at a heightened level of vigilance. dhs.gov/alerts NWS-ELKO NSTR NWS-LAS VEGAS NSTR NWS–RENO Red Flag Warning -Strong winds ahead of a cold front today and tonight - Low pressure in the gulf of Alaska will push a strong cold front through the Eastern Sierra and Western Nevada late tonight and Saturday. Ahead of the front, strong winds with low humidity resulting in critical conditions will occur during the afternoon and evening. The strong winds with low to moderate humidity will continue overnight near and South of Interstate 80 in the Sierra into portions of Western Nevada.
