Statement from DUP Leader Peter Robinson MLA 9th July 2013 Immediate Release DUP Leader Peter Robinson MLA has said he is utterly bewildered at the decision of the Parades Commission to ban the return parade by members of the Ligoniel Orange Lodges on 12th July evening. Commenting Mr Robinson said, “While the Parades Commission have issued a legal determination the rationale behind the determination is deeply flawed. This wrong-headed approach will do little to build respect and tolerance for cultural diversity. Many will interpret this as a reward for violence and intolerance in light of events in the area last year. The initiative taken by the local lodges in their recent engagement with residents was the right thing to do and was warmly welcomed throughout the community. Regrettably that progress has not been recognised. At this difficult time I would encourage people on all sides to use their influence to ensure a peaceful outcome. Once again it is clear that any truly lasting solution to parades will involve the abolition of the Parades Commission.”
