Statement from UMass Lowell Chancellor Marty Meehan on UMass President Robert L. Caret’s decision to return to the University System of Maryland: “President Caret presided over a critical period of growth and sustained success for the University of Massachusetts. His partnership with the legislature to stop the long-term slide in state funding for UMass had a dramatic impact on affordability for our students. He also has done impressive work in aligning the university with the Commonwealth’s stake in the innovation economy and positioning us well for an even greater future. I thank him for his unwavering support of the Lowell campus during his tenure and wish him well at the University of Maryland.
