Stef and I recently watched a movie that really moved me: Night Train to Lisbon. Its about a Swiss classics teacher who prevents a woman from committing suicide and ends up with her coat. In the pocket is a book of philosophic musings by a Portuguese doctor and a train ticket to Lisbon. The musings move him in his humdrum life and on impulse he goes to Lisbon to find the man, only to find out he was involved in the revolution of the early 1970s. The teacher investigates the story of the doctors circle of revolutionary friends with their loyalties and a love triangle. The teacher continues to read the musings and try to unravel the doings of these extraordinary and passionate people. He feels an awakening and perhaps finds love. Its far from perfect, but the atmosphere and the romance of the people who are trying to do a great thing is very impressive. I love Jeremy Irons as the teacher.
