Steve Sinsley The GOPs little rule change they hoped you wouldnt notice: Here’s congressional representative Chris Van Hollen (D.-Md.) on the floor of the House of Representatives repeatedly pointing out how Boehner and the Tea Party Republicans rigged the situation. Early this month, they pushed through a resolution which would stop any member of that body from bringing up a bill or resolution (as would normally be the case) and leaves that in the hands only of the House majority leader “or his designate.” It’s a great little clip, grimly funny and truly absurd, in which Van Hollen runs repeatedly through the rigged set-up that prevents the U.S. government from being reopened when there is assumedly a majority in the House to do so. He finishes when the speaker pro tempore asks him to end (“suspend”) his comments by saying, “Well, Mr. Speaker, I think democracy has been suspended.”
