Still on the subject of Frankish/ Alemannic / Merovingian/ Carolingian warriors in the 7th/ 8th century, heres evidence for the wearing of bearskin cloaks in the Carolingian Royal palace of Paderborn, The recovery of bear claws at the (Paderborn) palace could also reflect hunting but their presence alone is more likely to reflect the wearing of a bearskin cloak (Wigh, 1998, 85-61, Doll 1999,448). (From Northwest Europe in the Early Middle Ages 600-1150: A Comparitive Archaeology by Christopher Loveluck , published in October 2013, and partially available on Google books.) So evidence for bearskin cloaks for this period on the Continent. Any other evidence elsewhere, especially in Britain for bearskin or other fur cloaks?
