The Blues always looked in control after John Terry nodded home the opener early on, and Cesc Fabregas made the result safe with a scuffed finish in the second half. John Cross was at the Britannia and was impressed by Terry and Nemanja Matic for Jose Mourinhos side. Bardsley 6: Booked. Brutal foul on Hazard nearly started a war on the pitch. Shawcross 7: Wiped out Costa with an early aerial challenge. Still loves a battle. Muniesa 5: Chelsea’s movement and pace gave him all sorts of problems. Pieters 6: Booked. Had a ding dong battle with Costa. Enjoyed the scrap. N’Zonzi 6: Energetic in midfield and saw one long range effort brilliantly saved. Cameron 5: Lost Terry at first corner. Was punished for unforgivably bad defending. Walters 6: Had fine effort blocked brilliantly by Cahill. Worked hard. Bojan 7: Some nice glimpses of his dribbling ability. Wonderful talent. Arnautovic 6: Gave Willian an early elbow but Chelsea refused to be intimidated. Crouch 6: Didn’t trouble Chelsea’s defence enough. Kept quiet by Terry and Cahill. Subs: Diouf (Crouch, 6), Adam (Cameron), Assaidi (Arnautovic) Stoke City v Chelsea VIEW GALLERY Chelsea Courtois 7: Mourinho sent a clear message by bringing fit-again keeper back in. Ivanovic 7: Hard as nails. Chelsea’s right back always give everything. Cahill 7: Made a terrific block from Walters to deny Stoke. Rock solid. Terry 8 (MOTM): Headed his first Premier League goal of the season. Great warrior. Azpilicueta 7: Tigerish and tenacious, did an excellent job at left back. Mikel 7: Did an effective job in front of the Chelsea back four. Solid. Matic 8: Fabulous player, just what you want in your midfield. Hard and classy. Willian 6: Stoke roughed him up. The Brazilian had one good shot well saved. Fabregas 7: Brilliant corner kick for Terry’s opener. Brilliant supply line for Chelsea. Hazard 7: The victim of a brutal challenge by Bardsley.
